Am participat astăzi 23 octombrie 2010 la examinarea organizată în comun de patru dintre cele șase DOJO bucureștene: KENSHIN, TENCHI, RAKUTEN și CAVALER.

Decernarea diplomelor la Kenshin dojo

I attended today (Oct. 23, 2010) to the exams organised together by four of the six DOJOs from Bucharest: KENSHIN, TENCHI, RAKUTEN and Cavaler.

S-au acordat grade KYU și grade DAN. Vreau să-i felicit pe cei trei practicanți care au promovat astăzi gradele DAN: ȘTEFAN SERAFIM SENSEI (DOJO-CHO Râmnicu Vâlcea) – SANDAN; ARTHUR ALEXIU SEMPAI (RAKUTEN DOJO) – NIDAN; și ANDREI AIOANEI SEMPAI (TENCHI DOJO) – SHODAN.

KYU and DAN ranks were awarded. I want to congratulate all of the three students who today promoted to DAN ranks : STEFAN SERAFIM SENSEI (Ramnicu Valcea DOJO-CHO) – SANDAN; ARTHUR ALEXIU SEMPAI (RAKUTEN DOJO) – NIDAN and ANDREI AIOANEI SEMPAI (TENCHI DOJO) – SHODAN.

Deși doar doi practicanți nu au promovat examenul, nivelul tehnic nu a fost pe măsura așteptărilor pentru unii dintre promovați. Poate că emoțiile și în mod sigur practica insuficientă ar putea justifica asta, însă este necesara mai multa muncă.

Although only two students did not passed the examination, the technical level was not the expected one, at least for some of them. Maybe the emotions and definitely the insuffient amount of practice might explain that, but harder work is necessary.

Poate că unii dintre cititori mă vor întreba de ce nu am refuzat gradele acelora care nu au performat așa cum aș fi vrut eu. În primul rând pentru că am ținut cont de întregul lor comportament din perioada dintre examene. În al doilea rând pentru că eu am fost cel care le-a propus examinarea (ceea ce nu înseamnă în niciun caz că dacă fac o eroare refuz să mi-o asum). Nu în ultimul rând, gradația KYU sau DAN nu se acordă numai pentru tehnică, ci reprezintă măsura progresului tehnic, fizic și spiritual pe calea AIKIDO. De această dată am preferat să acord gradele și să subliniez greșelile și faptul că durata dintre examene este una minimă. Evident, va trebui ca pe viitor să fiu și mai obiectiv.

Maybe some of the readers will ask me why I did not refused the ranks to those who had not performed up to my expectations. First of all, because I took account of their behavior during the whole period between the examinations. Second of all, because I was the one who proposed them to be examined (which in no circumstance means that if I make an error I will not take the responsability for it). Not in the least, KYU or DAN ranks are not awarded only for the technique, they represent the measure of the technical, physical and spiritual progress along the AIKIDO way. This time I preferred to award the ranks and to emphasize their mistakes and the fact that the time between the examinations is only a minimum. Obviously, it will be necessary for me to be much more objective in the future.

De ce am scris despre cele de mai sus? Pentru că vreau să vă împărtășesc din gândurile mele ca examinator și să vă spun că nu este întotdeauna simplu să promovezi sau nu pe cineva care este examinat. Uneori este foarte complicat. Asta dacă îți pasă de calitatea AIKIDO pe care îl predai și care trebuie să reprezinte organizația și nu în ultimul rând, pe tine personal, ca instructor. Elevul este oglinda profesorului.

Why I wrote about those aforementioned issues? Because I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts as an examiner and to tell you that it is not always simple to promote or not a student. Sometimes it is very complicated. Considering you are really interesed in the quality of the AIKIDO you teach, which must represent the organization and, not in the least, yourself as an instructor. The student is the mirror of the teacher.

Mai multă practică. Mai multă modestie. Mintea deschisa. Acestea ar fi concluziile mele.

More practice. More modesty. Open mind. These would be my conclusions.
